An upcoming partnership in New York may bring new investment and sales opportunities for the state’s cheese producers.
According to the Star Gazette, Wegmans Food Markets and Cornell University are scheduled to announce a long-term partnership next week. This partnership will tie Wegmans and dairy specialists at the Cornell College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
This new alliance opens the door for New York’s both cheese makers and dairy farmers.
New York was crowed the nation’s top yogurt-producing state earlier this year and ranks among the top of the nation's milk-producing states. In 2010 New York produced 743 million pounds of cheese, trailing behind Wisconsin and California.
Iowa State University reports that the average American ate 32.8 pounds of cheese in 2009, a slight increase from 2008.
