PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — An ammonia leak forced the evacuation of workers at a Portland dairy while fire crews asked residents of the neighborhood within half a mile of the dairy to stay indoors.
Portland Fire and Rescue spokesman Paul Corah said no injuries had been reported but a hazardous materials crew was at Alpenrose Dairy in southwest Portland at noontime on Wednesday.
Corah said residents sheltering in place near the dairy should shut windows and doors, and turn off air conditioners. Some streets in the area were closed to traffic.
The dairy also has a number of athletic facilities on the property, including baseball and softball fields.
