CWT assists with 4 million lbs. of cheese, butter, WMP export sales

Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) accepted five requests for export assistance to sell 158,733 lbs. of cheddar and Gouda cheese, 2.315 million lbs. of butter (82% butterfat) and 1.574 million lbs. of whole milk powder (WMP).

Bids were accepted from CWT-member co-ops Dairy Farmers of America, Michigan Milk Producers Association and Northwest Dairy Association (Darigold). Dairy products will be shipped  to customers in Asia and the Middle East, June through November 2014.

Year-to-date, CWT has assisted member cooperatives in selling 57.232 million lbs. of cheese, 50.229 million lbs. of butter and 13.596 million lbs. of WMP to 41 countries on six continents. These sales are the equivalent of 1.746 billion lbs. of milk on a milkfat basis.


Cattle on feed down 2%

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in U.S. feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 10.6 million head on June 1, 2% less than a year earlier. May placements totaled 1.91 million head (1.81 million net), down 7% from a year earlier. May fed cattle marketings totaled 1.87 million, down 3% from a year ago and the lowest May total since recording started in 1996.
