Year-to-date (YTD) 2014: 2.257 million head

YTD compared to same period 2013: -265,900 head

Highlights: For the week, 26% came from USDA Zone 5 (IL, IN, MI, MN, OH & WI); 26% came from USDA Zone 9 (AZ, CA, HI & NV).

New Holland Sales Stables

Dairy replacement sales results from the Annual Dairy Show & Sale, held at New Holland, Pa. on Oct. 29. Compared to last week, dairy cows sold mostly steady; demand was very good. Bred heifers sold mostly steady compared to last week; demand was moderate. Wednesday's supply included 200 fresh milking cows, 17 springing cows, 15 short-bred cows, 52 springing heifers, 96 short-bred heifers, 84 open heifers and 13 bulls. All sales on a per-head basis, Holsteins unless otherwise noted.

Dairy replacement sales results from special sale held at Springfield, Mo., on Oct. 29. Demand very good, supply heavy with higher quality than recent sales. There were 5% springer heifers, 21% bred heifers, 16% open heifers,  3% fresh heifers and cows, 5% bred and springer cows, and  11% baby calves. The balance was steers, bulls and slaughter cows.  Several milking cows and bred heifers sold by the pound. Holsteins unless noted otherwise. Prices reported on a per head basis.
