DMPP meeting schedule updated

USDA released final details of the new Dairy Margin Protection Program (DMPP). Enrollment deadline is Nov. 28. Dairy farmer informational meetings are underway. Dairy Herd Management has been notified of meeting schedules in several states.


Illinois DMPP webinar planned

The University of Illinois will host a DMPP webinar as part of its farmdoc webinar series, Sept. 16, noon-1 p.m. (Central). The live event will feature University of Illinois' John Newton, clinical assistant professor, Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics, and Phil Cardoso, assistant professor, Department of Animal Sciences.

The format will include about 30 minutes of presentation and 30 minutes for Q&A. Participants have the opportunity to send specific questions to the presenter.

This webinar is free. However, advance registration is required. Participation is limited to 1,000. Details & Registration

Michigan State University Extension is conducting meetings throughout Michigan. Christopher Wolf, MSU dairy economist, along with Extension dairy educators and farm management educators, will lead two-hour workshops. FSA personnel will also be present.

The University of Missouri (UM) hosted two workshops to discuss the Dairy Margin Protection Program (DMPP). For producers who did not attend, a webinar will be held Sept. 19, noon to 1 p.m. Details are available at local MU Extension offices.

The Minnesota Milk Producers Association is also coordinating workshops throughout Minnesota this fall to help dairy farmers understand and prepare to enroll in the new Dairy Margin Protection Program (DMPP). These interactive sessions feature Dr. Marin Bozic, University of Minnesota. Advance registration is requested. Information on specific sites and registration deadlines can be found here. Registration is $10 per person and includes all program materials and lunch.

Nine workshops have been scheduled in Minnesota. Workshop dates and locations include:

Northeast/New York DMPP webinars planned

Northeast U.S. dairy producers will have the opportunity to participate in several webinars to learn more about the new Dairy Margin Protection Program (MPP).

Farm Credit East, in conjunction with the Northeast Dairy Producers Association (NEDPA), New York Farm Bureau and Cornell Pro-Dairy, will host a webinar on Sept. 26, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. 

Presenters for this webinar will be Andrew Novakovic, PhD, Cornell University, Mark Stephenson, PhD, University of Wisconsin-Madison and John Newton, PhD, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. They will review the rules and procedures behind the new Dairy Margin Protection Program; talk about price and margin forecasting and expectations; and review the decision tools available and talk strategies for making the MPP work for your operation.
