LENEXA, Kan. – Nominations are now being accepted for the third annual Dairy Herd Management Innovation Awards competition.

“Innovation drives productivity in agriculture and every other business,” says Tom Quaife, editor and associate publisher of Dairy Herd Management. “Innovation in agriculture will be needed to feed a growing world population.

“In fact, the Innovation Awards tie into another initiative by Dairy Herd Management and its sister publications at Vance Publishing Corp. ― the 40 Under 40 Awards designed to recognize young people who are making significant contributions to American agriculture.

“The two initiatives ― Innovation Awards and 40 Under 40 ― support the goal of feeding 9 billion people by the year 2050, which will require 70 percent more food production,” Quaife said.

In the first two years of the Innovation Awards competition, a number of products that enhance production efficiency in the dairy industry have been recognized.

This year, nominations will be accepted through July 15.

Eligible products must be new to the U.S. dairy marketplace since last October’s World Dairy Expo. To nominate a product, click here.

An expert panel of dairy farmers, agribusiness representatives and university experts will evaluate the nominations and choose 10 winners.

Winners will be announced at this year’s World Dairy Expo.

Innovation! Suppose our government quit using food for fuel. I suppose that could go toward feeding a lot of people. Also maybe we could promote our vast resources of natural gas, this would eliminate the need for ethanol, which supposedly cleans gasoline emissions. Aside from these thoughts we could quit wasting billions of pounds food every year.

I agree 100% Sometimes innovations are more for the profits of big companies than for the benefit of the dairy.
