Several leading dairy economists have compiled a podcast and two papers covering provisions contained in the dairy title of the Agricultural Act of 2014, approved by the House and under consideration in the Senate this week.

The 28-minute podcast features John Newton, University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign; Andy Novakovic, Cornell University; and Mark Stephenson, University of Wisconsin-Madison.

One of the papers complements the podcast discussion with a fairly complete summary of those provisions. The 12-page paper, Dairy Subtitle of the Agricultural Act of 2014 Information Letter 14-01, is co-authored by Marin Bozic, University of Minnesota; Cameron Thraen, Ohio State University; Newton; Novakovic; and Stephenson.

The other, more technical paper examines the impact of speculation on cash and futures markets trading. Price Discovery, Volatility Spillovers and Adequacy of Speculation in the U.S. Dairy Markets is co-authored by Bozic and Randall Fortenbery, Washington State University.
