Put down the diet soda and pick up a glass of milk.

That’s according to Redbook magazine which included dairy as one of the proven methods to burn fat and lose weight.

"Calcium serves as a switch that tells your body to burn excess fat faster," according to Michael Zemel, director of the Nutrition Institute at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn.

Zemel was one of the authors of a study published in the journal Obesity Research that found women who ate low-fat dairy products three to four times daily lost 70 percent more fat than those who were low- or non-dairy dieters.

Weight-loss is just one of dairy’s benefits. Other benefits from regularly consuming dairy products include treating obesity, fighting osteoporosis, preventing type 2 diabetes, decreasing the risk of stroke and lowering the risk for heart disease.
