Two informational meetings will be held in California this week to discuss Federal Milk Marketing Orders (FMMO). The meetings are open to the public. They will be held:
- Thursday, Jan. 16, 1 p.m., Tulare Ag Commissioner’s office, 4437 S. Laspina Street, Tulare, Calif.
- Friday, Jan. 17, 3 p.m., Modesto Double Tree Hotel, 1150 9th Street, Modesto, Calif.
USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) Dairy Programs deputy administrator Dana Coale and her team will be available to answer questions about the FMMO system. Three major California cooperatives – California Dairies, Inc., Dairy Farmers of America and Land O’Lakes – are currently working on the details needed to petition USDA for a hearing to create a California federal order.
The challenges and opportunities of federal and California milk marketing orders will also be the topic of a panel discussion during Western United Dairymen’s (WUD) annual convention in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
A panel discussion, moderated by WUD CEO Michael Marsh, CEO, , will include Coale and attorneys Chip English, a partner at Davis, Wright, Tremaine LLP, and John J. Vlahos, Partner, Hanson Bridgett LLP. The discussion will be held Thursday, March 6, at 9:30 a.m.
