A wind-driven fire killed seven animals at a dairy farm near Adelanto, Calif., over the weekend.

According to the San Bernardino (Calif.) Sun, the fire was initially reported in a large stack of hay bales on Sunday. It spread through eight of the dairy’s corrals.

Officials were able to move many of the dairy’s animals other areas protected from the fire, but seven others were killed.

San Bernardino County fire officials report that wind spread embers from the blaze, igniting smaller fires as far as a half-mile away.
