Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin is zeroing in on reproduction at the one-day Herdsperson Conference, in two locations, Dec. 4 and Dec. 5 from 9:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.
The conference, 'Zeroing in on Reproduction,' will focus on reproduction with four leading experts: Julio Giordano, Dick Wallace, Luis Mendonca and Paul Fricke with producer panelists Sarah Johnson from Majestic View Dairy in Lancaster, Wis. and Dan Reuter from Reuter Dairy in Peosta, Iowa.
The conference will cover numerous facets of dairy cattle reproduction. In the morning, Giordano will discuss profitability with optimum reproduction performance and review various economic decision-support systems that allow for the best economic decisions to be made. Wallace will uncover how to maximize the lifetime value of replacement heifers.
Using actual data, he will demonstrate how to capitalize these hidden opportunities.
In the afternoon, Mendonca will unlock the mystery to understanding the transition cow and reveal management strategies that may help maximize postpartum health, including improving reproductive performance.
Wallace will discuss residue-free record keeping to ensure a healthy herd with no residues. Lastly, Fricke and producer panelists Sarah Johnson and Dan Reuter will discuss new electronic systems that monitor activity associated with increased physical activity due to estrous behavior.
