Hundreds of animals perish in Wis. barn fire

A large fire at a northeastern Wisconsin dairy killed hundreds of animals last week.

According to Fox 11 news, fire crews arrived to the blaze to find the barn full engulfed with heavy, dark smoke pouring into the sky. Nearly 100 firefighters responded to the fire.

Authorities have not reported how many of the dairy herd died in the fire

The Green Bay (Wis.) Press Gazette spoke with Kewaunee County Sheriff Matt Joski, who said a significant that despite efforts of staff to evacuate a “good number of cattle,” there were “still substantial number of cattle that were lost in the fire.”   

“I spoke with some of the staff from the farm who said they were able to evacuate a good number of the cattle, but there were still substantial number of cattle that were lost in the fire,” he said.
