LENEXA, Kan. – John Maday has been promoted to editor of Bovine Veterinarian, effective May 1.
Maday has been with Drovers/CattleNetwork for the last 20 years, most recently as Managing Editor. Bovine Veterinarian and Drovers/CattleNetwork are both in Vance Publishing Corporation’s Agribusiness group.
Maday has an extensive background in the agriculture and cattle industries. After his degree in agronomy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he earned a master’s in extension education from the University of Florida, where he worked for six years coordinating in-service training for Florida Vocational Agriculture teachers and writing instructional materials for the Vocational Ag program.
Prior to joining Drovers in 1993, he spent three years working in public relations on animal health accounts, among others.
“I look forward to the challenge of leading the Bovine Veterinarian brand and helping veterinarians be more successful,” Maday said.
In April, he was honored with the National Institute for Animal Agriculture 2013 Advocacy in Animal Agriculture Award at the NIAA annual conference in Louisville, Ky. Over the years he has received numerous writing awards from Livestock Publications Council and the American Agricultural Editor’s Association.
Maday will retain some responsibilities with Drovers/CattleNetwork, including writing stories for the website and print issues, said Drovers/CattleNetwork Editor and Associate Publisher Greg Henderson.
“John has established himself as a respected journalist in the beef and agriculture fields, and I’m sure readers will benefit from his perspective,” said Greg Johnson, Vance Publishing Editorial Director for Agribusiness.
Maday succeeds Geni Wren, who left March 31 to become communications manager for the American Association of Bovine Practitioners.
Bovine Veterinarian magazine and bovinevetonline.com provide solutions for veterinarians who devote a significant amount of their time to bovine practice, addressing animal production and management, client operations and overall market performance.
