KEZI-TV reports a forklift backed into a haystack igniting flames at an Oregon dairy barn Wednesday morning.
About 40 firefighters from seven different fire companies responded to the fire at Noris Dairy in Scio, Oregon, but were unable to put out the flames. The hay was so deep firefighters were subjected to defense strategies to prevent the fire from spreading.
The 800 tons of organic hay burned down along with roughly 20 percent of the barn. Damage to the 300 thousand square foot barn is estimated at $750,000. All of the organic hay lost in the fire was worth about $96,000.
The farmers were able to save all 400 dairy cows that were unharmed in the fire.
