NEW YORK (AP) - Drugmaker Pfizer aims to boost sales of veterinary medicines in China - and its global dominance in the animal health business - in a joint venture with a Chinese startup company.

Pfizer Inc. will jointly develop, manufacture and sell vaccines for animals with Jilin Guoyuan (JEE-lin Goy-AHN) Animal Health Company.

Jilin has just built a high-tech factory that is awaiting Chinese government approval to open.

Pfizer says the factory will initially make a vaccine to prevent respiratory illness common in pigs. It could go on sale next year. Pfizer also will expand its China sales force, which promotes Pfizer vaccines and medicines for livestock and pets.

The partners plan to develop other vaccines for pigs, poultry and cattle.
