It is important that all people, regardless of ages or net worth, have a basic estate plan in place, and the plan is up-to-date. The time for this planning is now.

Few people relish estate planning. Deciding how to distribute assets after death is an unnerving reminder of one’s own mortality. However, estate planning can help ensure a smooth transition between owners.

“Plan Your Farm Estate” is being offered by University of Illinois Extension, Boone, DeKalb, Ogle unit. Local food systems and small farms educator Ellen Phillips, along with estate attorneys Mark Berardi and Susan Rogers of Gardiner Koch Weisberg & Wrona Associates, will be the presenters. Topics to be covered include components of estate planning, preparing an estate plan, implications of decisions, and where to go for help or to find resources.

The program is from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, at the University of Illinois Extension office at 421 W. Pines Road, Oregon, Ill.

Cost for this program is $10 per person and $5 for each additional family member. Pre-registration is required by Tuesday, Nov. 13. For more information or to register, call University of Illinois Extension, Ogle County, at 815-732-2191 or go to
