Young stock killed in barn fire

A barn fire at a dairy near Sheldon, Vt., on Tuesday killed six calves or heifers and injured one person.

According to Fox 44 News, fire crews fought the blaze for several hours, and Fire Chief Richard Piaseczny believes the make of the roof helped the fire from destroying the entire structure.

"Yeah, it helped tremendously, it made the fire go up and out quickly so it reduced the damage and the unfortunate kill to the animals as well," Piaseczny told reporters.

July has proven to be a deadly month for dairies with numerous barn fires killing more than 200 animals across Wisconsin, Canada and now Vermont.
