Did you know that lactose-free milk also comes from cows?
Deion Branch of the New England Patriots finds this out first-hand at the Jordan Dairy Farm in this hilarious behind-the-scenes video. As part of the National Dairy Council's partnership with the National Football League for the Fuel Up to Play 60 initiative, this video was shot to teach people that even if you suffer from lactose intolerance, there are still ways to take in the valuable nutrition that dairy products have to offer. Deion spent a day on the farm, making some udder-ly cool new bovine friends and learning about how the dairy industry produces lactose free products, like Lactaid, that are nutrient packed for a healthy, balanced diet.
Deion spends his life staying in shape for peak physical performance and knows what well-rounded nutrition and physical activity means for a healthy life. That's why he teamed up for the Fuel Up to Play 60 Program and headed down to the farm to spend the day learning about dairy nutrition and hanging out with some of the farm's larger inhabitants, the dairy cows!
Americans are recommended to build a healthy diet based on MyPlate (MyPlate.gov) which includes nutrient-rich foods from the five basic food groups, including three daily servings from the Dairy Group. However, most Americans are not taking in their recommended three servings of dairy daily. Lactose Intolerance affects some 25 million Americans, leading many to believe the intake of low-fat milk, cheese and/or yogurt is difficult or impossible. But even those who suffer from lactose intolerance don't have to miss out on the essential calcium, protein, potassium and vitamins A and D that dairy products have to offer. As Deion learned firsthand, there are great tools and tips help continue enjoying dairy and its benefits for your health and wellbeing.
