WIFR Rockford reports A California company faces another delay in building a dairy in Illinois as the state’s Environmental Protection Agency denied Tradition Dairy a special water quality permit.
The project initiated in 2008 and has faced an injunction, a lawsuit over illegally discharging and a legal battle with neighbors. The dairy will face further delays as the EPA denied the permit saying waste from the dairy could find its way into drinking water.
Along with concerns of contaminated drinking water, Jo Daviess County residents fear the dairy will create a lower quality of life.
State Representative Jim Sacia is disappointed the proposed dairy has become a political issue and Illinois is rejecting a positive economic development while facing financial crises.
