Milk does a body good, and now there’s even more research to prove it.
A study from University of Gothenburg examined the diets and health of 120 eight-year-old children, and the results found a new ally in the fight against childhood obesity: whole milk.
Researchers found that children who consumed full-fat, whole milk daily had a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) than those who seldom drink milk. These milk-loving children weighed an average of 8.8 pounds less than their peers.
"This is an interesting observation, but we don't know why it is so,” Susanne Eriksson, dietitian and thesis author said in a university news release. “It may be the case that children who drink full-fat milk tend also to eat other things that affect their weight. Another possible explanation is that children who do not drink full-fat milk drink more soft drinks instead.”
