Two dozen dead cows were found inside a barn on a Wisconsin farm earlier this summer, and now a Shawano County farmer at the center of the case has pleaded no contest to animal neglect charges.

According to Fox11 News, Joseph Brunner appeared before a Shawano County court on Wednesday, announcing his decision to not contest the charges.

Brunner was arrested in June following the discovery of at least 24 dead cows on the property. Investigators were led to the farm on reports of a foul odor emanating from a barn. Brunner reportedly told authorities that the animals had been sick with pneumonia and wasting disease. Click here to learn more about the case.

Brunner’s sentencing date has yet to be announced. Read more from Fox 11 News here.
