The largest dairy processing plant for fresh milk officially opened today in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England. The $835 million investment built by Arla Foods cooperative is expected to supply 10% of England’s milk. Arla Foods is a farmer-owned cooperative with 3,000 members. Only 900 of those members will supply the milk allowing it to process 240,000 liters per hour (545,000 pounds) or over 2 billion pounds per year. The plant actually began processing milk in November, but was adding finishing touches until recently.
