Eating yogurt at least four times a week can decrease the risk of developing diabetes by as much as 28 percent, according to a new study
According to researchers from the University of Cambridge, regular consumption of yogurt significantly cut the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. The study, published in the latest issue of Diabetologia, compared the diets of more than 750 men and women who developed Type 2 diabetes over an 11-year-period to3,500 randomly selected people from the same population.
The results: consuming yogurt regularly dramatically reduced the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
Other dairy products also showed a role in reducing the risk of diabetes. When yogurt and low-fat cheese are eaten together, the study also showed that the chances of becoming diabetic was reduced by 24 percent.
Yogurt isn’t the only dairy product to help reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. From college students to postmenopausal women, numerous studies have found that dairy, including high-fat products and even cheese, can lower the risk of developing diabetes.
