Nelson made this young man’s day.. Shelly Mayer, microphone in hand, kept the line moving so all fans received the chance to interact with Nelson. On the surface, Green Bay Packer’s wide receiver Jordy Nelson may not have much in common with  dairy farmers, but there’s more to this Kansas-native than first meets the eye.

“I grew up in the country on a farm that my grandpa started,” Nelson told the 1,500 dairy producers and allied industry partners in attendance at the 2014 Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin Business Conference. “My dad farmed, and my brother, sister and I did chores on the farm.

Nelson gave the keynote address at the conference in Madison, Wis., last week.

“Farming gives you a lot of responsibilities and teaches you hard work. As a farm kid, you did what you were told to do on the farm and you did things the right way. I can honestly say the long days prepared me for training camp,” he added.

Nelson also took questions from the audience for nearly 45 minutes and proved to be a great role model for the crowd.

“Do the right thing, act the right way and maybe you will have an impact on someone,” Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin quoted Nelson in saying during his speech.
