An accident involving a cattle trailer ended in the death of 23 bred Holsteins and a citation.

According to Delaware Online, earlier this month the driver of a cattle trailer failed to negotiate a curve on an interstate off-ramp, sending the double-decker trailer over the guard rail.

Of the 42 Holsteins in the trailer, 19 survived. Some of the animals wandered onto the highway following the accident.

The Holsteins were headed overseas to the country of Jordan, where buyers hoped to use them to enrich their dairy herds. Click here for more.

The Associated Press adds that while the driver was not injured in the accident, police issued a traffic summons for inattentive driving. Read more.
