BQA

Hear from national Dairy BQA award winner Keith York about the importance of BQA certification for training his employees.

Today’s consumers want to know more about how their food is raised. The beef checkoff-funded Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program can be a positive influence in sharing information with consumers, as it provides research, training and certification that help farmers, ranchers, dairymen and those who work with their animals — your clients and employees — provide the best care for their cattle. And, thanks to a partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI), BQA certification is FREE from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31.

For the third time, the checkoff-funded Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program is offering beef and dairy producers the chance to become certified at no charge through a partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) and the Beef Cattle Institute (BCI) housed at Kansas State University. The cost of BQA or Dairy BQA certification is normally $25 to $50; however, from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31, BIVI will cover the cost of the certification or recertification.

More than 11,000 producers have taken advantage of the offer, which demonstrates the industry’s commitment to quality and that it has embraced BQA because it is the right thing to do. BQA is also a great tool for training employees on proper animal care and handling on the farm or ranch or in the clinic.

BQA certification is the next step to show consumers the entire industry is committed to producing the best beef possible. The BQA online programs are customized for cow/calf, stocker, feedlot and dairy operations, with both beef and dairy versions of the courses. Developed and managed by the Beef Cattle Institute, these easy-to-use modules teach sound management techniques that can be applied to operations and also used as training tools for employees.

The online certification process is simple — watch the 5- to 20-minute modules; take the corresponding online quiz; and then print out the BQA certificate. BQA certification is good for three years and once certified, participants receive a reminder email one month prior to their certification expiration. And, new courses are continuously added to the site.
