The Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports four dairy cows were rescued before a three-story tall barn was totally destroyed Thursday morning.

Six fire departments arrived to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to attached buildings and the farmhouse nearby.

The fire started before 11:15 Wednesday night, burning through about 3,000 bales of organic hay. The barn was built in the 1900s but was recently refurbished.

Gary Miller, owner of the dairy, isn’t sure if he’ll rebuild the barn and will evaluate construction costs and insurance. Miller’s loss is mostly sentimental and he’s upset to lose the old building that’s been on the property for so long.
