USDA released final details of the new Margin Protection Program for Dairy (MPP-Dairy). Enrollment deadline is Nov. 28.

Dairy farmer informational meetings are underway. Dairy Herd Management has been notified of meeting schedules in several states.

 

California Milk Producers Council sets MPP-Dairy meetings

California's Milk Producers Council scheduled several informational meetings to update members on the new Margin Protection Program for Dairy (MPP-Dairy). Dates, times and locations are:

Minnesota

The Minnesota Milk Producers Association is also coordinating workshops throughout Minnesota this fall to help dairy farmers understand and prepare to enroll in the new Margin Protection Program for Dairy. These interactive sessions feature Dr. Marin Bozic, University of Minnesota. Advance registration is requested. Information on specific sites and registration deadlines can be found here. Registration is $10 per person and includes all program materials and lunch.

Beginning Oct. 6, MPP-Dairy informational meetings will be held along the I-29 Corridor. These meetings will feature Dr. Marin Bozic, assistant professor in Dairy Foods Marketing Economics in the Department of Applied at the University of Minnesota, along with local Farm Service Agency (FSA) representatives in each state.

Northeast/New York webinars planned

Northeast U.S. dairy producers will have the opportunity to participate in several webinars to learn more about MPP for Dairy.

Farm Credit East, in conjunction with the Northeast Dairy Producers Association (NEDPA), New York Farm Bureau and Cornell Pro-Dairy, will host a webinar on Sept. 26, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. 

Presenters for this webinar will be Andrew Novakovic, PhD, Cornell University, Mark Stephenson, PhD, University of Wisconsin-Madison and John Newton, PhD, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This webinar is free, but advance registration is required. Visit FarmCreditEast.com/webinars.

 

Cornell will also offer DMPP webinars at multiple times and locations on Sept. 23, via the Cornell University WebEx system. Participants may join the webinar via WebEx at 40 locations, or join by phone only. For information, click here.

Penn State schedules 35 MPP-Dairy meetings

The Penn State Extension Dairy Team will host 35 meetings this fall on MPP-Dairy. Registration is not required. Free informational workshops will be offered at several Vermont locations in October. The meetings are sponsored by University of Vermont Extension, USDA’s Farm Service Agency and the Vermont dairy cooperatives. All meetings begin at 10 a.m. and finish at noon. Speakers will include Dr. Andrew Novakovic, Cornell University, and Dr. John Newton, University of Illinois, who will describe the program and work through examples using decision tools.

No registration is needed. Dates and locations are as follows:
