Accident at dairy kills worker

An accident at a Verbree Dairies in Wendell, Idaho, left one worker dead.

According to the Times-News, Cecelio Garcia Gaucin, 45, was repairing a tractor in the dairy’s silage pit when the tractor ran over him.

Gooding County Sheriff Shaun Gough believes Gaucin was lying between the front and rear tires “when something went wrong.”

“The tractor somehow started by itself. It was in forward gear and full throttle,” Gough said.

No one was in the cab at the time of the accident.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health notes that more than 60 facilities each year from tractor runovers. The University of Iowa suggests several things to prevent tractor runovers, including shifting transmission into park or neutral and setting brakes. Read more here.
