Milk Source Holdings Inc. said Tuesday it has entered into a long-term lease and option to purchase Greenleaf-based Calf Source from JBS USA.

Calf Source, 3586 Cooperstown Road in rural southern Brown County, has raised about 7,500 dairy calves at a time for dairy producers in Northeastern Wisconsin since September 2000.

The farm originally was founded by Milk Source and was sold to Smithfield Beef Group in 2004. Smithfield later sold Calf Source to JBS USA in 2008, according to Milk Source.

Calf Source raises calves until they are about 6 months old. They are then raised on heifer farms until returning to their home dairy at about 2 years old.

Milk Source partner Jim Ostrom said no jobs are expected to be lost.

Terms of the transactions were not released.
