ROME, Pa. (AP) — Nearly 100 cows are dead after a fire at a northeastern Pennsylvania dairy farm.

WNEP-TV reports that 40 head of cattle perished in the blaze and dozens more had to be put down following the fire Wednesday night in Windham Township, Bradford County.

Workers at the farm say the barn was destroyed and about 50 cows escaped the structure but had to be euthanized after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Investigators say the fire is not considered suspicious.
