They’re all winners, but four teams were super

At the North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge last weekend in Roanoke, Va., these teams received first-place honors:

University of Guelph. Team members are Christopher Bartels, Wade Deaken, Robyn Walsh and Mark Wynands. The coach is John Walton.

The Ohio State University. Team members are Kevin Jacque, Melinda MillerEmily Stayduhar and Kati Stevens. The coach is Maurice Eastridge.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Team members are Michele Belling, Adam Cook, Kelli Fischer and Adam Kolb. The coach is Chuck Steiner.

Cornell University. Team members are Theodore Christoph, Daniel Durfee, Jordan Fisher and Ariel Garland. The coach is Mike Van Amburgh.

Thirty-two teams from colleges across the nation participated in the two-day event.

On the first day, each team received information about a real-life dairy, including an on-site evaluation. The teams then made recommendations regarding the farm’s nutrition, reproduction, milking procedures, animal health, housing and financial management. .

Day two was a presentation day. Team members made recommendations to a panel of judges, then fielded questions from the judges.

The competition encourages dairy science students to perform at the best of their abilities.
