A two-alarm fire at a Washington State dairy left two cows dead and a milking barn destroyed in its wake.

The fire at Stauffer's Dairy in Washouga, Wash., broke out around 12:30 Monday morning.

According to the Associated Press, area farmers arrived on the scene to save as many cows as possible. The surviving cows were packed into trailers and transported to other facilities to stay on their milking schedule.

A lack of fire hydrants at the dairy and overhead power lines complicated efforts to save the farm.

Firefighters report that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The milking shed was burned to the ground and is considered a total loss.
