Tacoma, Wash. News Tribune reports the Smit Dairy and Edaleen Dairy in Whatcom County will be able to turn manure into electricity if they can receive funding.
The proposals are in preliminary stages and will only become a reality if the dairies are able to find funding for the project. Both projects are asking for grant or loan funding through the USDA. Officials with the USDA will accept comments on the projects through the end of the month.
There are currently two digesters operating in Whatcom County including the oldest in the state of Washington.
