Wis. barn fire kills 64 head of cattle

A fire at a dairy near Edgar, Wis., killed 64 head of cattle, including 50 milking cows, on Wednesday according to an updated from WSAU news, available here.

WSAW NewsChannel 7 initially reported the blaze as firecrews battled against it for hours. The barn is considered a total loss, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Many in the community spoke up on the WSAW Facebook page, sending their thoughts and condolences to the dairy. 

“A fire is horrible for a small farm. This kind of a loss for some would be so devastating that they would just fold up and no longer be farmers,” one person wrote. “It's my hope that they will rebuild. We lost so many small farmers already.”
