Feeding expenses and cost of production are a concern for all livestock producers, especially in the dairy industry this winter. In these challenging times, it is important that producers make the most of resources and remain productive. For the most up-to-date and reliable information, dairy producers and industry professionals will want to join A Dairy Discussion with Dr. Michael Hutjens to be held on Tuesday, December 14 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at University of Illinois Extension – Clinton County office in Breese.

Highlights of the discussion will include feeding approaches with $5.50 a bushel corn, precision feeding approaches, fine tuning dairy economics, southern Illinois dairy industry outlook, and future dairy resources and education. As in the past, plenty of time will be devoted to questions from local producers.

Dr. Hutjens has served as the Dairy Specialist for University of Illinois Extension for over thirty years. He is highly regarded as a researcher and instructor, serving producers and industry professionals alike. At the end of December, Dr. Hutjens plans to retire and pursue other endeavors within the dairy industry.

Please contact University of Illinois Extension-Clinton County Unit at (618) 526-4551 by December 10 to register and if reasonable accommodations are needed.
