Dirck Steimel, news services manager for the Iowa Farm Bureau, says he was shut out of a news conference by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) in early April because he was affiliated with agriculture.
HSUS called the news conference to show undercover video, purportedly of abuse at Iowa egg farms.
“I’ve covered agriculture and food trends for years and thought I might be able to bring a little of that experience and expertise into the press conference,” Steimel writes. “But it wasn’t possible. Because I work for an agriculture-affiliated organization, I was barred from the press conference.”
