Ag trade down so far in 2009

New trade data from USDA shows significant year-to-year declines in U.S. agricultural exports, and also in imports. For the fiscal year-to-date, USDA reports agricultural exports valued at $81.9 billion, compared with $96.6 billion during the same period last year. Agricultural imports for the fiscal year-to-date totaled $62.4 billion, compared with $66.3 billion for the same period in 2008.

Looking at the 2009 calendar year-to-date, exports totaled $53.8 billion compared with $68.4 billion last year, and imports declined from $47.6 billion in 2008 to $42.5 billion so far this year. The full report is available from USDA.
