Inspectors from the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District got right to work enforcing air quality regulations on dairies in the area.

As of last week, six dairies in Kings and Tulare counties had been cited for illegal construction or expansion without an air permit. The exemption for ag was removed in Jan. 1, 2004.

The air district can impose fines of up to $75,000 per day.
