The American Meat Institute Foundation will host a national daylong BSE briefing, Feb. 3 at The Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C. The briefing will provide a forum for discussion and analysis of what is arguably the most challenging issue ever to confront the U.S. beef industry.

The program will provide scientific and trade-related information about the events and policy developments surrounding the recently confirmed case of BSE in Washington state. The program will feature key regulators, scientists and international BSE experts who will provide updates on the sweeping changes in regulatory actions taken by various segments of the industry and government, offer updates on international trade and discuss the plans in place to address other critical issues that lie ahead. Speakers also will examine the flurry of media coverage and its impact on consumers.

Leading BSE expert Dr. Will Hueston of the University of Minnesota, formerly a top official at USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, has been confirmed as keynote speaker to present the forum's opening scientific update.
