Legislation introduced last week in California would put animal abusers on the same level as sex offenders, reports The New York Times. According to the news report, convicted animal abusers would be listed in an online registry, along with a photo, their home addresses, place of employment and information on the person’s offense.
If passed this bill would be the first of its kind in the U.S. and was introduced by California State Senator Dean Florez, chairman of the Senate Committee on Food and Agriculture.
Florez said in the report that the law would provide information for those who “have animals and want to take care of them.”
