According to U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y, mismanagement of the dairy-price-support program by the USDA has cost dairy producers in his state $25.4 million since 2001. And since the USDA doesn't seem to be in any hurry to fix the problem, Schumer and Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., have introduced a bill to withhold the salary of the USDA staff members who oversee the program anytime the dairy-support price drops below $9.90.

The bill was included in the agricultural component of the omnibus budget bill that is expected to come up for approval by the end of January. For more details, click here.
