The latest developments in the dairy calf-and-heifer-raising industry will be discussed at five regional Dairy Calf & Heifer Profit Seminars in October and November.

The seminars are geared toward dairy producers, calf and heifer growers and dairy beef growers. The one-day seminars are sponsored by the Dairy Calf & Heifer Association (DCHA) in partnership with allied industry.

Featured speakers include Sam Leadley, calf and heifer management specialist with Attica Veterinary Associates in Attica, N.Y., and Robert Corbett, operator of Dairy Production Medicine in Spring City, Utah. Carlos Risco, a professor of rural animal medicine at the University of Florida, also is participating in the seminar in Tifton, Ga., in place of Corbett.

Topics for the sessions center on nutrition and management of calves and heifers. Corbett will speak about maximizing growth. Leadley will focus on calf care and transitioning heifers. Risco will discuss maximizing pregnancy rates in replacement heifers.

On-site registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The seminars will adjourn by 3:45 p.m. Registration is $45 for DCHA members and $95 for non-members.
