The California Assembly passed a bill that establishes a 2.5 mile “dairy-free zone” around ColonelAllensworthStateHistoricPark on Monday.

Opponents of two proposed dairies in the area say the buffer was needed to keep the historic park free of flies and odors they say the dairies would generate. TulareCounty officials, however, say the Assembly bill erodes local control.
