Cheesemakers in California produced a whopping 2.14 billion pounds of cheese last year.

According to an article in the Central Valley Business Times that’s an increase of 7.1 percent. The increase far outpaces the national cheese production growth rate of 2.6 percent as reported by USDA.

However, cheese production in Wisconsin still surpasses that of the golden state. Wisconsin cheesemakers produced a record 2.4 billion pounds – an increase of 1.7 percent.
