A $5 million grant from the “Buy California” program is making the Western Institute for Food Safety and Security a reality.

The Institute is a partnership of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the Department of Health Services, and the University of California-Davis. The center will conduct research in order to find ways to enhance food safety from farm to plate. Bioterrorism, biosecurity, microbiological safety of foods, the safety of food moving across California’s borders and consumer food safety education will all be priorities for the new center.
