California Sen. Barbara Boxer and Rep. George Miller want all cows slaughtered for human consumption in the U.S. to be tested for BSE.

Sen. Boxer has called on USDA Secretary Ann Veneman to use her emergency powers to require BSE testing of all animals slaughtered for human food consumption in the U.S. And Rep. Miller has said when Congress reconvenes later this month he will introduce legislation to require all cattle sent to slaughter be tested for BSE.

The legislators also support government funding to pay for the additional testing.
