Santa Clara County (Calif.) sheriff’s deputies arrested a man suspected of stealing and selling dairy cows.

The man, Jeffrey Whalen, San Martin, Calif., was supposed to be caring for 156 milking cows for an investment group that purchased the animals from Texas. Profits from the sale of milk and calves born were to go to the investment group. However, there are no cows at the farm, and equipment and hay are also missing. Whalen is suspected to have sold the assets for which the investment group had paid $190,000.

There are also outstanding warrants for Whalen’s arrest in Texas and Arkansas for similar livestock thefts.
