Milk is the new taste craze in China, reports the Feb. 28 edition of The Wall Street Journal. In a front-page article, the newspaper cited higher incomes and a physical-fitness movement in China as reasons why milk has surged in popularity.
China may be the fastest-growing market anywhere. The largest dairy company in the world, Nestle, says it is seeing double-digit sales growth there.
Hopefully, U.S. companies will join in. But, U.S. companies were conspicuously absent from mention in the WSJ article. The only U.S. company mentioned ¾ Kraft ¾ reportedly sold its stake in a Chinese dairy venture in 2001.
