DONA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — A dozen cow carcasses have been found in a central Florida pasture, and officials suspect they died of neglect.

Lake County spokesman Sgt. Jim Vachon says the animals were found Wednesday in various states of decomposition. The deceased cows appear to have died from neglect, since there was a lack of hay and other nutrients necessary for the health of the cattle.

Several sickly cows were also found alive.

Agricultural deputies and Lake County Animal Services are continuing their investigation to see if the owner of the animals was neglecting them. Charges have not been filed.

The pasture is in the Dona Vista area of Lake County, between Sanford and Deltona.
